New Products and Supplier Management

Developing robust products that meet the current and emerging needs of our customers is vital to Cabot Microelectronics Corporation. CMC follows the Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) process to ensure quality is designed during in our New Product Introduction (NPI) process from initial development through high-volume manufacturing scale-up.

Our quality organization also plays an important role in our supplier management process. Our quality organization uses a systematic approach to developing a supply base. This approach delivers outstanding quality while executing continuous improvement methodologies, providing the lowest cost of ownership to CMC and our customers and innovating with CMC on new customer opportunities.

New Product Introduction

CMC's NPI process moves products from concept to high-volume manufacturing (HVM).   NPI ensures we develop products that not only meet or exceed our customer's requirements, but are also robust and well understood. Robust and well-characterized products help meet the performance needs of our customers from initial sampling through HVM volumes. Success of the NPI process depends on all functions within CMC and our ability to understand Voice of the Customer.

Supplier Management

CMC's supplier management is a collaborative process owned by our supplier quality and sourcing teams with significant input from R&D. The foundation of our supplier management process is built on the high expectations of the semiconductor industry and includes key components such as:

  • Change Management
  • Process Control Systems
  • Business Continuity Plans
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Supplier Scorecards
  • Supplier Audits
  • Supplier Awards
  • EHS

Each of these components, and more, are integrated into a closed loop process which follows the Six Sigma DMAIC structure of: Defining the expectations, Measuring and Analyzing supplier performance, Improving suppliers through continuous improvement, and then Controlling the supply base through approved supplier ratings and integration into new product development.
